Raise Money AND Make a Difference, Too
A fundraiser using ChicoBags is a healthy and easy way for schools to raise money using a product people will actually use. ChicoBags include lesson plans, developed by a credentialed teacher, to use in the classroom that can assist in promoting environmental awareness amongst students. The average school raises $8,500 in 2 weeks. When was the last time your jog-a-thon did that? Click here for more information about selling these handy, reusable bags.
Collect 20 Ounce Bottles for Cash
"What could be cooler than selling garbage packaged in garbage?" asks Inc.com: The Daily Resource for Entrepreneurs. "TerraCycle" (dubbed "The Coolest Little Start-Up in America" by Inc.com) originated as the dream of a young man to produce an organic plant food entirely from organic food waste. But Tom Szaky, who began working on this project during his first year at Princeton, also wanted to package it in reused soda bottles. Although investor interest in his new company was slow at first, Tom's persistence has been rewarded; today, some of TerraCycle's 15 products are found at Home Depot and Wal-Mart, and he expects 2006 revenues to be around $1.5 million!
TerraCycle Plant Food is made by feeding premium organic waste to millions of worms; the "worm poop" is then liquefied into a powerful organic plant food and bottled directly in used soda bottles. But this environmentally-minded company needs our help to collect used 20-ounce soda bottles. "Collector" schools (and other non-profit organizations) will earn 5 cents for each (label-removed) bottle mailed in the provided boxes (with prepaid UPS labels) pictured above. (SCARCE keeps a box at its headquarters to help support its projects.) To date, TerraCycle has rescued over 1,306,977 bottles.
